What is it that you do?
Well... This all started as an interesting hobby.... it evolved from an Grizzly lathe that I purchased to do wood turning with my son... whose interest lasted all of about 30 minutes..... That lathe sat in the garage until about 10 years later, when I happened upon an advertisement for starting a wonderful New Hobby of turning pens (Pen Kits) (Pen Kits are just that, pre-made pen hardware... all you do is add wood or acrylic, turn it round and press fit all of the hardware)
I was bored with all of my pens pretty much looking like every other pen kit on the block... so I evolved... I purchased a old South Bend Metal lathe (South Bend 9A) and stripped it down to it's component parts. I replaced a few parts and gears... added a whole bunch of tooling - Chucks, quick change tool post and tool holders Collet chucks.... Which took me about a year to do..... then the learning process began.... how to cut metal.. how to do threading.... fitting parts.... making the pen plans and 2-1/2 years later... I am making pens that are unique. Simple in design... Elegant to view ... and quite "Brutish" in heft!
